Well, I have decided that Providence College has been trying to squeeze every last dollar out of me before I leave. Earlier this year I received a charge of $55 dollars for not handing a form into the business office on time. I had received a note in my box a week prior telling me to get the form in "as soon as possible" so I tried to get the information from my mom and then I handed the paper in on January 16 only to be told that the deadline was the 15th and so they opened a student loan account for me and would have to charge me $55 dollars. Though the usual process is to have students sign a form saying that it is okay for them to open up a loan for them, though they did not do this for me, they tried to find the form that I signed which said it was okay for them to charge me, but I never signed one, yet they still thought it okay to charge me. Only after talking to about 5 people and writing a formal appeal to the board was I able to get my money back.
About a week later I was given a 35 dollar fine for not displaying my parking pass, but I didn't have it up because it took them over a week to change the sticker from grey to red, showing that I had switched to the electrical lot.
Now, I am taking summer tesol, I was going to finish it this year but I was not allowed to take Child Development as a directed study, because Morgan said it would be far to much work for him. (though the entire course was evaluated through multiple course questions on our chapter readings so I really cannot see how). So now I am planning on taking it this summer.
I had already taken a Tesol course last year and so I emailed Jason asking if I could get a reduced price on the summer TESOL because I already have finished 1/5 of the course material, to which he replied it is already a discounted program and so there was nothing that could be done. So really, it is both Morgan and Jason who are making me pay an extra 380 dollars (1/5 of the 1900 dollar tuition). I am sick of this place and the "Christian" Facade it puts on saying that they will try to help you, but really they are just another business, as corrupt and money grubbing as any other.

soon enough, you will be out. and then you can join the chorus of the alumni who scream "FUCK OFF!!!" when we get begging letters in the mail.
I must agree with Sarah. Soon enough you will not have to think about Prov and its non accrediation stupidity and the way that it wants to screw us over frequently. At least you didn't have a professor who made 1 assignment worth 40% of your mark and she STILL has not marked it. Sometimes I think that hte professors are worse than the staff.
I must say that I do enjoy the Professors, even if they haven't gotten my 50%-of-my-mark paper finished yet. My issues are mostly with those on the first floor of the administration wing of the building. Though after getting $650 in scholarships I have less to complain about, and really shouldn't pick out faults... Though I still do not feel that Providence is justified in charging me again for taking credits I have already taken.
Bah. Blame it on the slowly turning gears of bureaucracy, which confounds any attempt to instigate the sensitivity of Christian morals to individual cases. I don't think it has to do with money grubbing at all. In my experience, if you bug them enough, you can escape almost any silly fine. Of course, the summer TESOL is an obvious exception, since as they say it's a discounted program (all or nothing). Personally I don't think you have much to complain about there. Why on earth would you do some of the work beforehand??
ahh Ivan, I did some of the work before hand because I still had a year of college to go. Unfortunately Louise did not check the required educational classes against the TESOL classes, so every one of them conflicted. I tried to do a directed study, so that I could still do both at once, but Morgan said it would be too much work for him, so Louise gave me the choice to either receive my TESOL or my degree. Thus, I did not choose to do the summer TESOL, but was instead made to take it, unless of course I wanted to shell out another ten grand for another year.
I can see where you're coming from with the money grubbing thing, however, in the end I think the money all goes to the same place... its just a matter of how they spend it, not how they obtain it. Some of the fees are quite annoying, and it is to be expected, and some of the ways that we are advised as students are ridiculous at best. However, I also think that it is fair to say that there are many people at prov who are quite dedicated to what they do. It isn't so much for business... besides... why would the staff at the school care so much about obtaining your money when they are paid so little. (Perhaps they are bitter, or recieve some kind of commission)
I see (Kanadjin). That really sucks.
I agree (Burdman) with your point. Prov is not exactly a bastion of capitalist exploitation.
I think I payed that '$55' every semester I have been at Prov and every semester it made me grouchy...where is the grace! grrrr! ohwell i am over it :) I hope tour was amazing and that you have a very wonderful summer.
